About the Woodbury Area
The city of Woodbury is a derivative of the Minnesota Territory that was allocated for settlement after being relinquished by the Native Americans of the United States. The original city of Red Rock was renamed after Levi Woodbury; upon his discovery of an existing Montana city bearing the same name.
The first settlers arrived to the then wooded land in 1844 and began clearing the land for farming. Charles Spangenberg Farmstead is one of the few surviving farms from that era. The township government was established in 1858. Nearly 100 years later, the city would make its first step towards urbanization with the development of the first housing development in 1955. Interstate 94, 60th street, Century Avenue, and Manning Avenue are the major streets and highways bounding the city.
